ABOUT MICHELE
Bio & Approach
Meet Psychotherapist Michele Gaspar, MA, LCPC
My Approach to Psychotherapy
I use the richness of psychoanalytic theory, both past and present, in my work with clients. Listening and curiosity are the cornerstones of my practice. I am an engaged therapist who uses an easy, conversational style. Clients bring to sessions whatever is on their minds, including memories, present events and dreams, so that together we can understand and make sense of their issues.
As an analytic candidate, I also am able to offer reduced-fee psychoanalysis for individuals who wish deeper treatment. Psychoanalysis can effect profound change and involves meeting multiple times a week over the course of several years.
Training and Experience
I am a licensed professional clinical counselor and I am an analytic candidate at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. I was selected as a Scholar by the American Psychological Association’s Division 39 (psychoanalysis) for 2018-2019. I received a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University/Chicago in 2009 and completed the certificate program in mindfulness and psychotherapy through the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy (Newton, MA) in 2010. I completed the two-year certificate program in Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Chicago Institute in June 2016.
I received the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994 and my Bachelor of Science degree from The Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University in 1975. I have lectured nationally on topics related to psychosocial issues impacting medical/veterinary professionals. I have worked in journalism, as well as clinical veterinary medicine.
